An exhibit at the 17th Japan Fine Arts Exhibition
208x168cm Mashi (Linen Paper)

I am fond of, and often sketch, hydrangeas in full bloom. Nevertheless, I also appreciate the life of the withering and dying hydrangeas. I attempted to draw them nestled within the withered pampas grass. (I pulled out large stalks of the Japanese pampas grass and brought them into my workshop. While I was absorbed in sketching, my studio was crawling with ants.)
